For cedar, composite, and tile roofing, if the area treated suffered heavy lichen and moss infestation like you see to the left, its important to know that this growth has an established root system anchored in your shingle material. Imagine pulling a live weed from your flower bed. Plan on the roots tearing out part of the soil and causing damage to the surrounding "good" growth. The theory is much the same with lichens and moss on shingles. Although the entire growth is dead, the roots will require time to dehydrate and release naturally from the shingle material. To achieve the best possible outcome, rain, wind and sunshine safely and gently complete this process preserving and restoring your roof to its intended health and beauty.
